# I'm using a servo motor, and an overvoltage protection alarm is being triggered. When does this alarm occur? Also, how can I resolve this issue?

The conditions for overvoltage protection to function are as follows:

(1) When the power supply voltage is abnormally high

(2) When lowering during winding operation or vertical drive

(3) When decelerating and stopping under a large inertial load

(1) requires checking the power supply voltage.

(2) and (3) are load conditions that cause the motor to rotate, resulting in regenerative operation.

The solution is as follows:

- Reduce driving speed
- Increase the deceleration time.
- Use regenerative resistors \*

- \* Regenerative resistors are an option that absorbs regenerative energy.  
  We recommend using regenerative resistors if you cannot change the driving time or deceleration time.  
  For more information about regenerative resistors, please contact us.

Depending on the operating conditions, if you use αSTEP instead of a servo motor, you will hardly need to consider regenerative energy.
